Elton Brand Out as 76ers GM Amid Front Office Overhaul

The Philadelphia 76ers’ front-office transformation continues.

According to reports, Elton Brand will not return as the team’s General Manager and is currently working through a new role within Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the franchise.

Brand, who has been a fixture in Philadelphia’s front office since 2016 and served as General Manager since 2018, reportedly chose not to interview for the organization’s vacant President of Basketball Operations position following the departure of Daryl Morey. Despite the ongoing changes, sources indicate Brand has remained actively involved in the team’s preparation for the upcoming NBA Draft.

A former No. 1 overall pick and two-time NBA All-Star, Brand transitioned into the executive ranks shortly after his playing career ended. During his tenure, the 76ers remained a consistent playoff contender, highlighted by multiple 50-win seasons and several deep postseason runs.

His departure from the GM role marks another significant change for a franchise looking to regroup after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign. Philadelphia has already begun reshaping its basketball operations department, signaling the start of a new chapter for one of the Eastern Conference’s most scrutinized teams.

While Brand’s next responsibilities within Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment have yet to be finalized publicly, his continued presence within the organization reflects the respect he has earned throughout the franchise.

As the NBA Draft approaches, all eyes will be on Philadelphia’s new leadership group and the direction it chooses to take a roster built around former MVP Joel Embiid and an organization still searching for its first NBA championship since 1983.
